From Here To Eternity, by Shane Sands

From here to eternity, where are your eyes focused!?  Have you ever asked yourself or wondered why GOD has us to focus so much on the return of the LORD JESUS?  Have you considered why the LORD calls us to be so heavenly minded?  It happens to be one of the best fruits of spiritual maturity and discernment.  We can get a glimpse of this as we examine the growth of a baby into a mature adult.  Then we see another example when we look at how employers hire and what they hope to find/develop.

A good example of this kind of maturity and discernment, an employer is looking for, is the ability to know what your boss would expect/ask and before he/she does you have already done it. More so, this is also true of following CHRIST JESUS the LORD. Do you have HIS Word richly dwelling in you so you are able to discern what you should do or how you should act during your stay on earth?  Do you filter everything through the lens of the Word of GOD?  Does your prayer life consist of you seeking to know the LORD more intimately and walk in a manner worthy of HIS calling and gospel?

Join with me as we examine the parable of the dinner found in Luke chapter 14, especially verse 22, and see how the slaves knew what to do and did it before it was commanded of them.

16 But He said to him, “A man was giving a big dinner, and he invited many;
17 and at the dinner hour he sent his slave to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come; for everything is ready now.’
18 “But they all alike began to make excuses. The first one said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of land and I need to go out and look at it; please consider me excused.’
19 “Another one said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out; please consider me excused.’
20 “Another one said, ‘I have married a wife, and for that reason I cannot come.’
21 “And the slave came back and reported this to his master. Then the head of the household became angry and said to his slave, ‘Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in here the poor and crippled and blind and lame.’
22 “And the slave said, ‘Master, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’
23 “And the master said to the slave, ‘Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled.
24 ‘For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste of my dinner.’ ”
(Luke 14:16–24)

May this also be an encouragement for you to grow in GOD’S Word with the result of your walking in a manner worthy of the LORD. Grace and peace to all who are in CHRIST JESUS the LORD.

Are There Contradictions in The Bible, Especially In The Gospels – No

YouTube player

One of the most used objections to the Bible, from unbelievers, is it is full of contradictions, especially in the gospels.  There are also a growing body of those who profess to be believers who do not hold to the Bible as being inerrant infallible Word of GOD.

How do you address and help others to understand there are no contradictions.  How do you help correct those who profess to understand GOD cannot lie and so HIS Word is without error?

This short video, I pray, will do both.  May GOD use it to HIS glory and the exaltation of HIS SON the LORD JESUS CHRIST.  Amen.

The Gospel of The Lord Jesus Christ!

YouTube player

As we begin season four of the “That They May All Be One” podcast focusing on lost truths of the Christian faith.  Sadly, I feel, one truth that has been watered down or even neglected is the gospel of the LORD JESUS CHRIST!  You might say that cannot be or that I am just being over dramatic.  However, there has been such a decline in the reading and teaching of GOD’S holy Word coupled with “easy believe-ism” in this western culture many Christians cannot even tell someone what it is.  This video goes through it and explains the following Scriptures, so you may know and I pray believe with all your heart the gospel of the LORD JESUS CHRIST.  Amen

1 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand,
2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.
3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.

(1 Corinthians 15:1–5)

Whatever! by Holly Sands

Have you ever heard the phrase “Coram Deo”? It is a Latin phrase, meaning, “before the face of God”.  R.C. Sproul said that the essence of coram Deo is to “live one’s entire life in the presence of God, under the authority of God, to the glory of God”.

In my prayer time this morning, I began meditating on just what it means to live in that manner. Scripture tells us:

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. – Col. 3:17

Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ – Matt. 25:37-40

For In Him we live and move and have our being… – Acts 17:28

It really struck me today that I need to remember that whatever I do, I do it unto the Lord; good, bad, or indifferent. My life (and yours too) is always under the watchful eye of our God. We are the temples in which He dwells. Do we really think we live unto ourselves? Our lives are not lived away  from the the Lord, but in Him. Therefore, everything that is done by us is done to Him.

How carefully we should live before Him!

Look Long! by J.R. Miller

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly!” Colossians 3:16

It is in His Word, that God reveals Himself. We cannot know what He is like, nor what the attributes of His character are—unless we ponder the Scriptures. We cannot learn what God’s will is, nor what He would have us to do and to be—if we do not look into His Word. There is nothing that we need more, than to hear God speaking to us every morning. This is possible, only as we open the Bible and let its words whisper their messages to us.

No matter how familiar we may be with the teachings of the Scriptures, we need to ponder them anew every morning to keep their pure ideals and lofty requirements ever before us—lest we allow our standard of holy living to be lowered.

If we leave off for only one day, we shall become conscious of a loss of power in living. If for two successive days we fail to look into God’s perfect law—our friends around us will notice the failure in the beauty, the sweetness and the grace of our character and disposition. If for three days we fail to study the Scriptures to see how God would have us live, even the people of the world will see a lowering of the spiritual quality of our life!

One of the ways the Bible helps us, is by making Christ known to us. The noblest Christian is he before whose eyes, the character of Jesus shines in brightest splendor. Indeed, it is only when we have clear visions of Christ, that we really grow like Him.

Christ will never appear really great in our eyes, unless we make His Word our daily study. And only as He becomes great and glorious in our thoughts—will our character and standard of life be lifted up to what they should be.

James Russell Miller (1840 – 1912) was born of Irish/Scottish descent. He pastored churches in Pennsylvania and Illinois and was the author of over 60 published books, as well as countless booklets and pamphlets; and also served as supervisor of over two dozen periodicals with a combined annual circulation of over 66 million copies at the time of his death.

Hope for the Fallen by Holly Sands

You know the all-too-familiar drill. You go about your day, minding your own business when all of a sudden the adversary of your soul – the devil – begins pounding you with memories of your past sin. If he is having a good time of it, he will even replay them in vivid detail – perhaps even connecting those sins to various unrelated events and accuse you until you feel depression looming over the guilt and shame you now feel. Oh, then he has you right where he wants you. When you are wallowing in self-disgust, he will begin accusing you with how God must view you. Ever hear this? “See!, he seethes, “You’ve made such a mess of things in your past. Look at how you fell. Look at you. You are worthless…certainly of no use to God. Why would He use you now?” Maybe he even uses it in the first person and you think it’s your own thoughts accusing you. Make no mistake – it’s your enemy.

I once received encouragement from a sermon of Alistair Begg, that I would like to share with you. May it strengthen the arm that holds your shield of faith.

There is hope for Christians who believe they have made a royal mess of their lives. King David was a believer. David was a friend of God. David was the choice of God. Yet, he made a royal curse of his life.

Therefore, despite the fact that you and I may have ignored God’s standards; we may have denied His Word; we may have rejected His commands; we may have suffered – and suffered terribly, as a result. Some who have repented and now are forgiven have now decided that God’s perspective on you is only some kind of grudging toleration; that you have been removed from the team; that now you are destined to live the balance of your Christian life in a a kind of junkyard of Christian experience.

But, that is not so. That CAN’T be so! As long as God is God.

Because He is a God, as David tells us, who does not treat us as our sins deserve; He puts them far from us as the east is from the west; He buries them in the sea of His forgetfulness. (Psalm 103:10-14)

Listen, Believer, who has listened to the devil’s lie of “I did this; I did that; I did the next thing; I made a hash of the whole business”. Just tell the evil one to go back to hell where he belongs, because you have taken your stand in the unguessable grace of God!

The God, who despite the fact that David was in that sorry predicament – it was still through him that the Christ was to be born in Bethlehem and that the nations would hear the voice of the Word of the Lord!

Oh brothers and sisters, Paul does not lightly say in Romans 8:31-39 that NOTHING can separate us from the love of Christ. Not at all to say that we can continue living in active sin, however, once that sin has been confessed and repented of (meaning, we are no longer living in it), we do not stand accused before our Great God, who has cleansed us and forgiven us. He no longer sees us stained. He sees us washed and clean and clothed with Christ’s righteousness. May I remind you of Romans 8:1-2 – there is no condemnation for you, who are in Christ Jesus; you’ve been set free.

I would encourage you to have a repertoire of scriptures, armed and ready to counter-attack when the adversary throws his fiery darts, that feel more like missiles. Answer back with who you are in Christ. Answer back with Christ’s victory won for you. Answer back with promises from your Heavenly Father who loves you. Don’t let your sword rust in the corner of the room. Pick it up. Arm yourself, Christian. You are not left without defense!

The Six “Know That’s” by Holly Sands

Sometimes when you are reading through the Word of God, certain verses seem to be emphasized in 3D. Today was one of those mornings as I was reading in 1 John 5.

“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.  And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.  And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.
We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.” (1 John 5:13-15, 18-20)

“We know that” stood out to me. It’s mentioned 6 times in these 5 verses .What is it that we know?

  • We know that…if we believe in the name of the Son of God – Jesus – we have eternal life. We know that Christ is living, working, and reigning in our hearts. We have assurance of salvation.
  • We know that…if we ask anything according to His will – He hears us. Do you ever think, when you are praying, “God’s eye is upon me right now”? This is the confidence that we have toward Him! What glorious access we have to the Father, through His Son!
  • We know that…if He hears us, then we have the requests that we asked of Him. He hears the prayers of our faith, asking that which He has promised. He will not deny us for He is faithful to His word.
  • We know that…everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning. A good test to see whether you are in the faith: when you sin, does it grieve your heart to know that you have grieved God’s? Do you despise the sin that required so great a sacrifice from God’s own Son? Those who have been born of God are kept by God and have been equipped with full armor to battle the deceitfulness of their own hearts, the lure of the world, and the temptations of the evil one.
  • We know that…we are from God. The Spirit of God testifies to our spirit that we belong to Him, as opposed to those who are in the world and addicted to it’s enticements.
  • We know that…the Son of God has come and given us understanding that we may know Him who is true. Jesus, the light of the world, has given us light (understanding) to know God, the Father – who is the one and only true God.

What a glorious certainty that we have been given by God! Hallelujah!
